How to Gain Weight


If you are looking to gain weight for body building purposes then you may find it harder than you think. Although most people struggle to lose weight, body builders often struggle to build up the bulk that they need. If they are working out regularly then the chances are they cannot bulk up because they are working off their calories so effectively. Let’s take a look at some tips on how to gain weight here:

1. You basically need to take in more calories than you burn off in this scenario. This isn’t a question of simply cramming in more high calorie junk foods as you need to make sure that your intake gives your body the right fuel to build muscle rather than fat. So, eat regular meals and make sure that you get the right nutritional balance for your training programme and for your size so that your body converts your intake into muscle. This may mean eating fewer meals with smaller portion sizes during the day at regular intervals.

2. Make sure that you balance your diet the right way in terms of carbohydrate intake. Look to eat a higher percentage of carbohydrate foods a day.

3. Many body builders will also use protein (often whey protein) and weight gain drinks and milkshakes. These can be used between meals or as a meal substitute. This can give you a big calorie boost. Some body builders recommend having a protein drink or milkshake straight after training to get the optimum effect - whey protein drinks are good here as they are absorbed quickly.

4. You also need to give your body time to relax. If you are constantly on the go then your body will work off the calories so take plenty of rest and make sure to get enough sleep.
